Art, performances, and architecture. It's rare that you can see these three concepts combined together into one event, but this is certainly the case in Chile and the annual SCL2110. Dubbed as one of the biggest architecture events in Santiago de Chile, here is one event that calls together both local and international artists and architects to put their lens on Santiago and Valparaiso.
SCL2110 calls these artists and architects to visualize the state of Chile's urban areas 100 years from now. It took off from the celebrations of the country's 200th anniversary and hopes to bring together ideas molded from the Chile's past, present, and future. Spearheading the event is Chilean architect Rodrigo Tisi, who was principally given the task or reimagining the state of both Santiago and Valparaiso after this time period. According to him, the event is a good venue to rethink and explore new art forms during the country's bicentennial. Inside the exhibit, you will be put in a hi-tech maze of popular Chilean landmarks, such as the La Vega market in Central Chile. Foreign architects like Bernard Tschumi, LOT-EK and Roselee Goldberg are there to give you their own futuristic impressions. Note that none of the visions that are presented in the exhibits are only conceptual in nature. No planning has ever been conducted yet to make sure that the visions materialize. However, even if this is the case, events like this make a good catalyst to realize the value and place of architecture in Chilean culture and art. It also gives future planners ideas of how they could employ these ideas of Chilean art and architecture into the lives of many Chileans. It has been projected that more and more people all over the world will transfer to cities from their country locations. It's important that we at least get a glimpse of how our national cities will look like when this time comes. For more information about the event, kindly refer to the website of SCL2110 below.
