Literature is one of the strong points in Chilean arts. Particularly in poetry, the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1945 was awarded to Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda in 1971. Twentieth century poets Vicente Huidobro and Nicanor Parra are just two who enjoyed international popularity during the 1950s and 1960s respectively. Novels of Isabel Allende joined the ranks of highly acclaimed in the whole of Latin America, in Europe and North America as well.

This coming spring, another artistic linguist from the country will be on the spotlight again. The newly uncovered novel by late Roberto Bolaño is to be serialized in the quarterly The Paris Review. Bolaño's "The Third Reich" will be translated in English and will given in four parts with the first installment to be given on the magazine's spring issue. Bolaño's piece will make history on the magazine be the first serialized novel in forty years.

The novel is said to be funny and buoyant according to long-time translator of Bolaño's works Natasha Wimmer. "The third Reich" is a story of a German war-gaming champion who is taking a vacation on Costa Brave before a big war gaming tournament, and finds himself drawn into a battle with an enigmatic local. The Wylie Agency, which represents Bolaño's work described the story to be one man's descent into nightmare. The typescript of the novel was found with the writer's paper after his death in 2003. It dates back from 1990s as a completed novel and meticulously corrected.

Robert Bolaño spent his early life quite an an adventurous life which included dropping out of school in Chile, being jailed for his support for the Allende, living in Mexico City, living a vagabond life in Europe and then Spain. These experiences of his are indicated on some of his works.

He didn't even expect his work make much acclaim saying in a diary entry: "I am sure I will die unpublished". His first book appeared at age of 43 and enjoyed his short-lived writing career for 7 years until his death on 2003 caused by diminishing health due to liver failure.
The only sad part is his international career jumped-started posthumously just like the artist we know to date.
