Literature is one of the strong points in Chilean arts. Particularly in poetry, the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1945 was awarded to Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda in 1971. Twentieth century poets Vicente Huidobro and Nicanor Parra are just two who enjoyed international popularity during the 1950s and 1960s respectively. Novels of Isabel Allende joined the ranks of highly acclaimed in the whole of Latin America, in Europe and North America as well. Robert Bolaño spent his early life quite an an adventurous life which included dropping out of school in Chile, being jailed for his support for the Allende, living in Mexico City, living a vagabond life in Europe and then Spain.
